Colonel Lamb's Pets
Display of two pieces of British-manufactured horse artillery
used by Confederat soldiers at Ft. Fisher to patrol the beaches
and protect shipwrecked Confederate blockade runners during the
Civil War. Captured by Union naval forces in 1863, these two
unique and long-range weapons are on temporary loan from the
U.S. Navy Yard museum in Washington, D.C. Call 910/458-5538 for

Riverfront Farmers' Market

County Cooperative Extension, announces the opening of the
Riverfront Farmers' Market. The market will be held Saturdays on
Water Street beginning April 15th and operating through December
20. Regional produce, plants, herbs, cut flowers, seafood and
more will be featured weekly, with special events and promotions
to be held throughout the year. The third Saturday of every
month is arts and crafts day at the market, where local artisans
and crafters will sell their wares. Musical entertainment will

Mary Holloway Seasonal Interpreter Program
A college intern will give costumed tours and weapons
demonstrations dressed as a Civil War soldier Wednesday-
Saturday at 9:30 and 11:00am, and 1:30 and 3:00pm. He will give
costumed tours at 1:30 and 3:00pm on Sunday. Regular guided
tours will be given on Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 and 11:00pm,

Carl Safina to speak at Aquarium dinner

Dr. Carl Safina, eminent author, ecologist and researcher,
will speak at a dinner at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort
Fisher. Safina, whose books include “Song for the Blue
Ocean” and “Eye of the Albatross,” has been profiled for
his conservation work by “The New York Times,” ABC’s
“Nightline” and Bill Moyer’s television special “Earth
on the Edge.” Safina’s newest book, “Voyage of the
Turtle,” is scheduled for release in May. The ticket cost is
$45 per person, and includes dinner, drinks and the

Shakespeare Youth Company

Back by popular demand, the Shakespeare Youth Company will
perform “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. This outreach program
is designed for those aged 7-18 who want to experience
performing the works of the world’s greatest playwright. The
free Shakespeare Youth Company performances will be staged on
Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 8:00pm on June 1 and 2 at
Greenfield Lake Amphitheater. It’s a wonderful way to support
young actors who are continuing the tradition of North
Carolina’s oldest and largest free outdoor Shakespeare
