14th Annual Battleship Blast
 
One of the largest choreographed fireworks display in the State of North Carolina explodes over the Battleship. View this spectacular event from historic downtown Wilmington. The Battleship closes at 6pm for fireworks. All vehicles will be required to leave by 6:30pm.

Instructor Katrina Fairbank will teach children ages 7 through 12 about some famous master artists, including Picasso, Warhol, Monet, Van Gogh, DaVinci, Pollack and more. Students will explore various techniques such as printmaking, collage, pastel, watercolor, and acrylic painting. Classes are funded in part by a grant from Brunswick Arts Council. First Session Dates: July 6, 7, 8, 13, 14,15.

Brunswick Town State Historic Site 2nd Saturday
 
2nd Saturday Program Theme: Weaving Through Time. Artisans will demonstrate different centuries of spinning and weaving using mediums such as cotton, wool and straw. One of the most prized artifacts at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson is the 19th century textile, the Fort Anderson Garrison Flag. A conservationist will be available to answer visitors’ questions on their personal antique textile(s) and offer advice on proper care and storage. Visitors will be offered a hands-on opportunity to make their own basket or drop spin wool. If artists have animals connected with their work they are encouraged to bring them to the historic site for interpretation. Items made by the artists will be available for purchasing.

Bald Head Island Pirate Weekend
 
The Meka II Pirate Ship will be sailing into the Bald Head Island Marina around 5pm on Friday, August 6th. It is expected that pirates from Blackbeard's Crew will try to prevent the Meka II from docking. Thus begins a weekend of pirates and history, all for the benefit of North Carolina's oldest lighthouse, Old Baldy. Hosted by the Old Baldy Foundation. Details can be found at www.oldbaldy.org.
