Wilmington, North Carolina

Leland, NC

Leland NC Known as "Brunswick County's Gateway City", Leland is conveniently located on the picturesque Brunswick River, just 5 minutes west of Wilmington, North Carolina. Leland is becoming one of the fastest growing cities in Southeastern North Carolina with a current population of 4,703 expected to grow to around 20,000 in about 10 years. This would make Leland the largest municipality in Brunswick County.

What makes Leland such a target for retirees and relocaters? The real estate market is hot, and the boom continues with big names targeting the ever-growing city for a possible storefront location. Stores like Target, Lowe?s and Home Depot have been eyeing vacant land just off Highway 17, with Super Wal-Mart opening in the fall of 2006 in the new mixed-use West Gate Center just off Highway 17 across from Magnolia Greens and Waterford of the Carolinas.

The convenience of living in Leland is that it's still close to the city, but still far enough away to get the small town atmosphere. Leland is also conveniently located about 20 to 30 minutes from any beach in Brunswick or New Hanover counties including Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, OakIsland, Holden Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, and Sunset Beach. The gateway city has become a popular draw for individuals and families who are currently experiencing long winters and are frustrated with shoveling snow and dealing with the cold; the climate in Leland is relatively wild almost year round.

In addition to Leland's proximity to Southeast North Carolina beaches, Leland is also a short drive (about an hour) to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and about one hour and forty-five minutes to Raleigh. Leland also has public access to the Brunswick River, which is conveniently located off Highway 133. Outdoors enthusiasts engage in kayaking, boating, fishing or just enjoying a picnic under the enclosed, shaded picnic tables.

History buffs appreciate two nearby sites - Orton Plantation Gardens and the Battleship Memorial. Orton Plantation Gardens is located on Highway 133, about 10 minutes past Leland, in route to historic Southport, while the Battleship Memorial is about 5 minutes away in Wilmington on the historic Cape Fear River. History buffs also are a hop, skip and a jump away from historic Downtown Wilmington, with the city's numerous restaurants, shops and historic churches and houses.

With variety, convenience and prime location, no wonder Leland is expecting significant growth over the next 10 years.
